Huntington Town Councilwoman Tracey A. Edwards in partnership with Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, NYS Assemblyman Andrew Raia and Mayor Greg Letica held a New York State Citizen Preparedness Corps Training Program September 28, 2017 at the Eaton’s Neck Fire House. The presentation was given by the Governor’s office, the Department of Homeland Security, The National Guard, NY State Fire and Police and Suffolk County Fire and Rescue Emergency Services.
This program teaches people to be better prepared in emergencies such as natural disasters, severe weather, hurricanes and other life threating situations. It gives people the tools to protect themselves and their families in an emergency. Participants receive a free NYS Disaster Preparedness kit prepacked with emergency essentials.
“This is our 5th session that we have held for the residents of Huntington. We have been filled to capacity each time. When NYS Assemblyman Raia and Mayor Letica and I were at the seawall with elected officials, we decided to bring this important training to the residents of Asharoken and Eaton’s Neck. When a storm hits there is only one way in and out. Superstorm Sandy taught us that we need to be as prepared as possible to protect ourselves, our families, our pets, and our property. This program will educate and prepare us for the worst case scenarios and I am excited to have brought this program to Eaton’s Neck residents. I am going to continue to hold these trainings to make sure that Huntington is the most prepared town in the State of New York” said Councilwoman Edwards.
Our next training will be on October 18, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at Huntington Town Hall. All participants must register in advance at www.prepare.ny.gov, for information please call 631-351-3317
